Interesting Details of the Hunt: It was my last chance to fill my first deer tag during the early muzzleloader season. A big cold front with strong winds and rain was moving in overnight. The evening hunt was spent sitting in a fence line overlooking a partially cut bean field with my husband.
We got set up plenty early and settled in for the wait. As expected this early in the year, the deer didn’t show until just after sunset. A few does filtered into the field and began feeding. I was wanting to hold out for a buck but my time was running out. My husband was filming the hunt and we talked abut whether or not I wanted to shoot one of the does. I decided with the storm moving in and it being my first deer I would be more than happy to take one of the mature does in the field.
I made a good shot and she ran only about 20 yards. After a short wait we recovered my first deer. It was a lot of fun and I look forward to one day shooting a buck.
