Interesting Details of the Hunt: I got out for an early morning hunt on opening day. It was unusually warm for December and the wind was coming out of the wrong direction, but we had hopes to bag something! I was positioned at the end of a long clear cut, and had the wind in my face. After waiting for a few hours I decided to move further down the clearing. I walked about halfway down and stopped to check my position on the gps. When I looked up I saw a deer standing near the tree line about 20 yards away. I raised my gun, saw antlers, and shot. I didn’t realize it then but that shot was a direct hit to the heart. He bolted towards me, at about 10 yards he turned and I shot him again in the neck. This time he went down, hard.  This was my first buck, and I couldn’t have been happier!
