Cow Elk Were you successful: Yes!
Weather, Wind, and Conditions: 40’s About 8 inches of snow on the ground .
Interesting Details of the Hunt: Went up over 10, 000 ft. and was following some fresh track in the snow. I rounded a corner and soft-spooked a herd of about 5 or 6 at about 20 yards. I saw a couple spike bulls and a few cows, but I didn’t have a shot and they trotted off around the corner. I decided to follow the track and just about 40 yards further I rounded a corner and saw a herd of about 20 elk. I was able to get a shot at a cow from about 20 yards. I shot through the front leg and heart and it dropped right there .
Was using a 150 grain bullet in a 30-06 .
Was disappointed at first to see that I had shot a young calf, but it worked out as I was over 5 miles from the truck.
